A Long Winter in West Sussex

This last winter has been the harshest I have ever experienced.  Those of us who have horses have experienced wet muddy conditions since the beginning of November last year.  I run a small Horse Livery West Sussex and pride my self on being able to offer ‘all year turnout’.  This last winter has meant that I have had to limit turnout far more than other winters. Thankfully in October last year I arranged to have an eleven meter by eleven meter pen built out the back of my stable block.  It looks like a mini sand school but with a gravel-like, scalping surface. Two of my stables now have back doors into the area.  With strong fencing around I can turnout in the pen whenever needed and the horses get to stretch their legs whatever the weather. For a relatively small cost of about two thousand pounds my fields have been saved this winter from the inevitable poaching they get from such a long, wet winter.
